Taneda works as a freelance illustrator with a low pay and also performs part-time as a guitarist in a band group called Roche. One day Meiko resigns from her job and hopes that Taneda would look after her and be successful in pursuing his music career.
She regularly visits him during practice sessions and mingles with the band members. The band is led by Billy (Kenta Kiritani) and also feature Meiko's best friend, Kato (Ayumi Ito). Problem arises when Taneda is not motivated to succeed in the band and this prompts Meiko to become a singer with the band.
The band successfully completed a demo CD and later send their work to major recording companies and wait for their response. Everything seems to go wrong when the band is about to be dissolved and Taneda is nowhere to be seen and not returning home.
While waiting for Taneda's return, Meiko listens to a song called 'Solanin', with the lyrics written by Taneda himself. Without Taneda the band determines to carry on. Will Taneda ever return? What happen to the band and their relationship in the end?
